From Our Series on Sexual Assault: A Check List

Do any of these thoughts sound familliar to you?

  • I feel numb. I don’t remember the last time I cried or got mad over anything. It’s easier to act like nothing’s wrong.
  • I feel worthless and guilty. How could I have been so stupid? How could I have let this happen? Did I do something to cause this? How can anyone love me anymore?
  • It’s his word against mine. What if my friends don’t believe me? I feel so alone.
  • If any of these thoughts and questions resonate with you, you are not alone. They are common among women who have suffered an assault.

We can tell you from personal experience that the only way you will truly be a VICTIM is if you buy into these negative thoughts.

First and foremost, please seek counseling. Most colleges and universities offer free and confidential support groups and councilling. If you are no longer in college, please seek out the resources we’ve listed in this newsletter.

Many organizations have local branches whose mission it is to support you in a professional and confidential manner.

Your next step towards healing should involve DOING something for yourself. It could be anything from letting yourself have a good, long cry to taking up kick boxing lessons or a self-defense class.
The bottom line is, the more you step up and take positive action, the better.

If you feel out of control, reach out. We’re here to support you!
