The Lost Girls Adventure Around the World

Peru_LGs_on_Amanda_27s_Bday.jpgLet me set the scene: Three friends, New York City, Winter 2005.  It was windy and cold, the kinda cold that makes you want to travel far, far away to some tropical island (or anywhere warm for that matter).  Their cell phones were ringing, their alarms were buzzing, and their spirits were frozen. The three twenty-something, Manhattan-made career women were engulfed in their work, leaving little to no time for friends, family and significant others.  On this cold, wintry day, Amanda, Holly and Jen asked themselves: “What exactly were we doing with our lives?”

They felt lost in the busy life and coined themselves “The Lost Girls,” as they began their yearlong, 35,000- mile journey around the globe. Maybe it takes a brave soul, a reliance on hope, and some saved cash in the bank, but they took a risk and decided to journey around the world.  What did life have to offer them besides e-mail replies, phone answering, deadline making and constant meetings? Without having all of the answers, these daring girls were going to find out.

On June 20, 2006, the girls kicked off their trek across the planet.  Their blog: The Lost Girls, is their account of their travels from New Zealand, Kenya, Bali, Thailand, to Cambodia (to name a few of their destinations) and is full of pictures and videos to keep you in the loop, (even though they want that phrase banned from everyday vocabulary)!  As winners of the 2007 Travvies Award for “Best Group Written Travel Blog, they have realized that a “journey to self-discovery is always worth taking.”

Here’s a short excerpt that begins the entire journey:

“Kissing our jobs, boyfriends, apartments, families and our beloved Manhattan goodbye, we officially became “The Lost Girls,” and started making plans for a yearlong, 35,000-mile journey around the globe.”

These women have won us over with their pioneer spirits and lush coverage of their adventures. We plan on following their blog regularly and encourage you to do likewise.
