“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”   This quote by the American cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead has been on my mind since the charity date auction.  

On September 12, 2007, a group of young professionals, made up of steering committee members, sponsors, volunteers, friends, family, coworkers, and participants gathered together to help children living with HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC.  

I am very pleased to announce that we raised over $15,000 to benefit Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc. a local non-profit working to preserve, assist and strengthen the well-being of children (ages 5-18) living with HIV/AIDS in metropolitan Washington, DC so they can achieve their fullest potential.

I am extremely proud and truly humbled at the kindness and generosity of people “our age.”  It was my dream only 5 short months ago to start this charity date auction to benefit a cause I was passionate about.   Who would have thought that a simple conversation over brunch (my favorite meal) with a bunch of my closest girlfriends would turn into this?!  

Sleepless nights. Anticipation. Exhaustion. Excitement. Pure Joy.

(Skipping ahead one week)

To whom much has been given, much is required…

It has been one week since the night of the event and I have finally caught up on my sleep!  Gosh, I forgot how much I LOVED to sleep!   I am still blissfully happy and humbled by what we accomplished last week. 

Since I am a contributing fashion writer for ChickSpeak, I will move along to more fashion-y topics relating to the auction.   The theme of the evening was: Gentlemen-Black (think GQ). Ladies-White. Steering Committee/Volunteers-Black.  The crowd was dressed to impress!  Remember, it was a night centered around a chance at love (even if it cost you a couple bucks)! ;)  As promised, here is a picture of me in my LBD (Solo shot is of me, pre-auction.
