This week is always a busy one at school. You’ll be finishing up your midterms and packing to go home for Thanksgiving. 

Either by train, plane or hitching a ride with a roommate by this time in the semester most of us are ready to for a change in scenery.

Now enter the true dilemma. It has been a long semester and your bank account is dwindling. You’ve made those few calls home already to the Bank of Mom and Dad and already know you’ll need to ask for yet another advance. What if you surprised them and yourself and came up with a few creative ways to line your pockets with some dollars?

Here are a few ideas to make some quick cash over the next few days.

Plan ahead a little bit- Now is the time to send emails, texts or phone calls to those family friends and neighbors that you babysat for over the summer. With holiday shopping coming up and houses full of relatives there are a few moms out there who would love to hear from you and be thrilled to book you for a few hours. And while you have their attention, share your Winter Break schedule with them and see if they are interested in booking you over the holiday. They will love not having to scramble for a babysitter last minute for all those holiday parties.

Dig through your closet- You’ve been living in a cramped dorm room or sorority house for a few months now.  You know exactly what you can and can’t live without.  Take a morning over the break to dig through your closet. Get rid of any jeans, handbags, belts, dresses, sweaters- anything that you haven’t worn in the last year. Chances are you won’t wear it again. Find a local consignment shop in your area and book an appointment. By the time you return home in a month for winter break you will have accrued some cash from these goods. Most stores split the profits with you 50/50!

Reach out- Contact your old boss at your summer job or hit the mall. Now is the time that people are gearing up for the holidays and are looking for extra help. If you waitressed over the summer, chances are they will have room for you for one night. If you worked retail see if they are looking for someone to pitch in on ‘black Friday’ - the busiest shopping day of the year. Again, ask them if they will need help while you are home in a few weeks. Book a few nights and reap in the dough!
