New Year, New Contact List: Ditch Old Digits in Your Cell

cell_phone_woman.jpgOf all your new year resolutions, why not make one small that you’ll actually keep? Say “See Ya” to all of the old contacts in your phone that you no longer use or aren’t good for you to keep on speed dial.

Every year we make resolutions that many of us forget by January 31st, but we can do small things that will make our hearts feel lighter and our lives easier to organize.

In this day and age where our cell phones are our life lines, planners and contact lists, now’s an ideal time to purge your cell phone of all old contacts info and numbers that you either don’t use anymore or are keeping around despite knowing that they could be problematic for you in the long run; this includes, but is not limited to: old flames that fizzled out for a reason, the ex who answers your late night texts and/or only calls you after 2am, and the drama queen who takes time and advice but never seems to return the favor for you…

So many of us keep all of our contacts, addresses and pertinent information in our cell phones.  As time passes, some of these contacts or information becomes irrelevant.  Not only does weeding out old or unnecessary cell phone contacts help you organized it has also been proven to help you “rid you of emotional baggage” says Renee McGovern, Ph.D, at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri.

It may be hard to hit the delete button on some of those contacts that you keep holding on for one reason or another.  Just go through ask yourself who you would want on your speed dial.  Does this person add joy to my life? Do I feel good around this person? Have we spoken or texted at all in the past year?

If they don’t make the cut, either transfer the information to a more permanent source such as an address book, or hit delete.  You will be surprised how good it feels.

A very wise friend once told me you can start each day with a clean slate; what you do with that day is your choice.  Why not start out the New Year with a clean and organized cell phone book?  Not only will you be able to find your friends faster, you’ll also feel better emotionally.  It’s a small step, but an easy and “feel-good” one!
