Trends in Hiring: Friends of a Feather… Work Together
I just came across a really interesting article on Entrepreneur by way of MSN about how Generation Y (all of us young 20-somethings out there) actually do better on the job when we are friends with our co-workers outside of the office.
Seems like a “no-brainer,” but it’s encouraging that big companies are not only noticing this, but recognizing that they need to support the hiring of employees’ friends and creating environments that foster legit social interaction if they want to keep recruiting fresh talent and retain these rising stars.
Here’s an excerpt:
According to a recent survey by staffing company Accountemps, 57 percent of executives say office productivity increases when co-workers are friends outside of work.
“This generation is tremendously team-focused,” says Mitchell Kusy, a professor at the leadership Ph.D. program at Antioch University and co-author of Manager’s Desktop Consultant. “And their focus and loyalty is with friends and family.”
