Band to Run To: Cage the Elephant
Once you’ve played “Blame It” on your iPod about 30 times during your daily run, you’ll be back at your computer searching for new music to get that “a-a-alcohol” out of your head. One band that’s getting tons of press-and climbing the charts-is fresh new alt-rock Cage The Elephant. Hailing from Bowling Green, Kentucky, their fast tunes are infused with Southern flavor, making their music incredibly catchy and soulful.
Try their first single off the band’s self-titled album: “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked.” This crazy, rock-n-roll story song is heavy, fun, and not a little jaded. It’s a great beat for getting through the day.
Another track that’s getting much press is the rhythm laden “In One Ear,” where the band talks about getting told to get out of the music business– something that they pay no mind. This song is funky with all kinds of attitude, much like the band’s overall flavor.
Also try “Back Stabbin’ Betty,” a song about a woman who trashes every man she meets, perhaps something of which we’re all guilty after that nasty break-up….
Overall Cage the Elephant is just plain good music; save it for the times when jamming in the car and going out are top on the list. Sharp guitar, funny and frank lyrics, and catchy beats makes this band one to watch.
Victoria Meade is a senior English major at Appalachian State University. She loves Old Hollywood and spends too much money on clothes. She hopes to grow up to be Princess Jasmine from Aladdin.
