Unemployment has invaded everyone’s lifestyle nowadays. It’s the new black, the new meme, the new American Idol contestant that lost. It’s the topic you love to hate.  Everyone’s talking about it because, well, it could very well happen to you, or your man. For now, forgo all those financial problems it could cause and concentrate on the real problem-it can get you dumped.Relationships, no matter how serious or silly, are simply a series of victories over obstacles. Barriers are always going to be in your way and once an obstacle wins, the relationship is over.

Unemployment is a huge one to look out for though as it can disrupt the very thing you do most with your other half - spending time with them. Without a job, time becomes a big deal. You either have too much of it or you have way too much of it and your partner needs a little less of you in their life. With a job, life is scheduled neatly and planned accordingly. Without one, it can throw many things into the air and a relationship can consequently suffer.

Many of you might be saying, “That wouldn’t happen to us, we love spending time with each other.”

Well, ladies, there are other ways to obliterate a relationship cursed with unemployment. Some are more obvious than others, but let’s try to avoid the following regardless.

Don’t Find Him a Job

If an opportunity pops up, maybe consider telling him, but the keyword is consider.  The other one is maybe. Many times, the guy will think it’s pity and a little patronizing. You could be implying that he’s not capable of finding a job himself. It’s great to be helpful, but know when not to be also.

Don’t Hug Him

It’s fine. People are jobless all the time, especially now that it’s trendy. This isn’t the end of the world so you don’t have to hold them extra at night or tell them “You’re gonna get through this.” Because, girls, they will get through it, but if you keep doing that, they’re going to get through it without you.

Don’t Call Daddy

Nepotism is great, but most men do not want to say “I got this job because I date the boss’s daughter.” This is sorta a spin-off from the first one, but it needed special attention.

Don’t Tweet About It

It’s his news and if he wants to share it, that’s up to him. Don’t assume he wants to keep it a secret either, that could bug him as well. Let him take the lead and support where it goes.

Don’t Offer Charity

Here’s a tricky one. If he normally pays for dinner, that doesn’t have to change. His balance isn’t at zero all of sudden and, if it is, there’s always Mastercard. Depending on what you two normally do with the money thang, assume it to stay the same. If you pay, keep paying. If you share, keep sharing.  If he pays, take advantage cause you could be in the same situation a few months down the line.
